You might expect a book written in the early days of this author's career to be less polished than her later works. Not so. I've been reading Roberson's fantasy and historical novels for almost as long as she's been published, and I found this western to be as enjoyable as anything she's written. The characters are strong and consistent (even when they make mistakes) and Roberson captures the tone of the era brilliantly. I don't often read westerns, but I enjoyed this one a lot.Product details

Lonnie edition by Jennifer Roberson Romance eBooks Reviews
It was a fresh take on a western. And the writting had me so invested in the characters I cried and laughed right along with Lonnie.
Great read--especially if you loved Rowdy Yates before we knew who Clint Eastwood was. And if you loved "True Grit" before Hollywood got hold of it. And if you just like to see a powerful woman as the main character in a western novel.
Although it is one of Jennifer Roberson's earlier works, it is still quality. If you have read her fantasy series, and want to see another side to this writer, check this book out. Enjoy!
The story and the writing seemed very lightweight for a Roberson novel. It was, nevertheless, a pleasant diversion, if very predictible.
The book was everything I could have hoped for in a western written by this author. Lonnie is forced to not only grow up way too fast, but to find the strength to carry on in extreme adversity. It is a wonderful classic western with a nice twist. I intend to have my grand daughters read this when they are old enough, as it is such a great example of strength and perseverance with a touch of romance thrown in to lighten the load. Quick read. Great escape.
If you want some thing just to settle into and get away, this is a good book to read. Written from a young Women's perspective it is a bit different than your normal western but very engaging. I finished it in two sittings as it keeps you interested to find out what is going to happen next!
I have read several of this author's fantasy books and really enjoy them..this fell right in place with the others in keeping one engaged.
I read Lonnie based on a recommendation by a friend. Not my usual genre, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the story. The lead character inspires and makes you care about her story. I do not normally care for books written in the first person, but somehow this one works well this way. This is from the author's freshman effort and I can see how her talent with words has taken her on to a successful writter of historical fantacies. Well worth the read.
